Aim2Change

Improving accessibility and inclusion in indoor climbing.

Aim2Change is a project we run in partnership with the Association of British Climbing Walls (ABC) to make climbing more accessible and inclusive, for everyone.

To project aims to:

  • Educate climbing wall professionals to help them better understand inclusion and accessibility - not as a tick-box exercise, but as part of everyday decision making.
  • Amplify the voices and experiences of people with lived experience, working alongside people from underserved communities to share their voices and experiences directly with the sector.
  • Promote an approach of progress over perfection to achieve real, honest, and ongoing change.

Throughout the project, we’ve worked closely with El Temple, ABC’s EDI Manager, who is co-funded by Develop through Challenge.

Aim2Change

Aim2Change activity so far...

  • Aim2Change Summit (2025)

In 2025, we ran our first Aim 2 Change Summit - the first indoor climbing summit dedicated to improving accessibility and inclusion for people who are d/Deaf, neurodivergent and/or disabled.

Over 100 people attended the event, with over half of attendees representing 23 climbing walls from across England. Confidence in championing accessibility rose from 3.1 to 4.2 (on a 1–5 scale) after the event - a full point increase.

  • Aim2Change on Tour (2026)

We took Aim 2 Change workshops across the UK, hosting events in Edinburgh and Bristol alongside the Scottish Paraclimbing Club and Urban Uprising.

  • Aim2Change at the ABC Conference (2026)

We are sponsoring an Aim 2 Change area at the ABC Conference in September. We're hosting workshops and networking sessions promoting accessibility and EDI, alongside community groups and organisations.

“To be able to connect with paraclimbers and people who care about inclusive climbing from around the UK is just such a delight.”
“Feeling like I belong in the professional climbing community - as someone who is neurodivergent and has a chronic illness, I often feel like I’m not represented”
“The whole day was relevant and productive. I learnt so much and made some great connections.”
“I learnt so much, it was a privilege to hear from all the speakers, their generosity in sharing their experiences was invaluable.”
