Bursary Scheme

Financial support to help people access activities that support their health and wellbeing.

Cost shouldn't stand between anyone and the activities that keep them active and improve their wellbeing.

Our Bursary Scheme offers financial support, covering some or all of the cost, for people who want to access climbing, our sauna, physiotherapy, or counseling and therapy, but face a financial barrier to doing so.

Support is available on a sliding scale and decided case by case, because everyone's situation is different.

24 people have received over £8000 of financial support so far.

Bursary Scheme

Applications are open for our bursary scheme. Find out more...

  • What can I get support for?

Climbing at Mile End Climbing Wall (including entry, membership, or a young person's NICAS award), our sauna, physiotherapy, and counseling or therapy. You can apply for support with more than one activity in a single application.

  • Who can apply?

Anyone. If you feel you could benefit from this scheme, we encourage you to apply - evidence like Universal Credit, Housing Benefit, or Disability Allowance can help support your application, but you don't need it to apply.

  • What happens after I apply?

We'll review your application and, if we're able to help, we'll get in touch to discuss your application and the level of support we can offer.

  • Where can I apply?

You can complete our application form online here or you can get a physical copy at our reception at Mile End Climbing Wall. You can also email amy.dtc@mileendwall.org.uk to find out more.

You can’t imagine what a difference it will make. I’m so excited to come and climb more, it really has been so beneficial for my mental health - as has the sauna and cold plunge. Thanks so much to the team at Mile End, you’ve got such a beautiful community.
The bursary has given me access to something that has completely changed my life. When I started climbing, I was only attending college and felt quite isolated. Climbing gave me purpose, confidence and a community, and I’ve gradually gone from that point to working part-time for a drug and alcohol charity and setting up my own recovery organisation. Mile End feels like a home from home, and the staff and community have made me feel genuinely connected.

We are looking for support in promoting our bursary scheme to communities beyond our climbing wall, and for funding partners to support our ongoing work. If you are interested in finding out more, please get in touch.
