Mile End Climbing Wall

Mile End Climbing Wall is our base in Tower Hamlets, and where our mission began.

Mile End Climbing Wall has brought Londoners together since 1986. It's where most of our work happens, offering climbing, sauna sessions, and a strong sense of community alongside subsidised and free programmes that open activities up to people who might otherwise be priced out or left out.

Every visit supports both a great climb and our wider charitable work. Financial support is available through our Bursary Scheme for those who need it.

Mile End Climbing Wall

We run lots of activities at the climbing wall

We have courses to suite everyone. Wether you are just staring out on your climbing adventure or a seasoned climber looking to remain sharp.

  • 1. Climbing at Mile End

Everyone who visits our centre is part of our vision of a fitter, healthier, and more inclusive community.

Over 28,000 people visit us every year to get active, connect with others, and focus on their physical and mental wellbeing.

  • 2. Queer Climb

A welcoming monthly social for LGBTQIA+ climbers to connect and climb together, with subsidised spaces and free shoe hire to remove financial barriers.

In 2025, over 400 people took part in Queer Climb.

  • 3. Womens+ Climb

Women-only social sessions, free to attend on top of regular entry - a relaxed space to build confidence, get tips, and meet other climbers.

In 2025, over 200 people attended our Womens+ Climb.

  • 4. Blind and Visually Impaired Climbing Socials

Social climbing sessions for Blind and Visually Impaired climbers to climb together at Mile End, supported by trained instructors. We also offer free six-week introduction courses for new climbers specifically tailored to access needs for Blind and Visually Impaired people.

  • 5. Young People, Squad, and Schools

We offer the cheapest junior climbing entry in London. Young people can work towards nationally recognised NICAS climbing qualifications, including NICAS Wild Climbers, an early-years programme, and NICAS Ascend, a scheme designed for and tested with disabled and neurodivergent climbers.

We support the future of British climbing through our Squad climbers, with some progressing towards national and Team GB pathways. We host competitive opportunities like England Youth Squad Training Days and the Youth Climbing Series, offer some of the most competitive pricing for schools PE programmes in London (especially for schools who couldn't otherwise offer climbing), and support youth clubs with indoor and outdoor climbing trips.

Over 1000 young people get active at Mile End every year and we run free of subsidised climbing programmes with over 15 schools. We have 36 young people training with us as part of the Mile End Squad.

  • 6. Sauna Sessions

We have two saunas and cold plunges for people to relax, unwind, and experience both the physical, mental and social health benefits sauna sessions can bring.

We have over 16,000 visits to our saunas every year.

“Your team have given [our son] happy and positive memories he will have for the rest of his life”
“I’ve had so much fun at Queer Climb, I’ve made lots of friends. It’s a lovely event that is very chill and is a great way to meet new friends.”
“I cannot express how grateful we are. The last few months were quite tough for [our daughter], so you have helped her enormously without realising how much goodness you are doing for her. We have not seen her being so happy for quite long.”
“I’ve also been using their sauna for over a year now, and it’s honestly one of the best decisions I’ve made! Between the facilities, the welcoming team, and the incredible community they’ve built, this place is just fantastic.”
“This is one of my favourite places! Everyone is so kind and supportive, the staff are utterly fantastic. Thank you all so much.”
